FAQs & Moving Tips
Sometimes it is said that moving is the third source of stress in life, besides the death of a loved one or divorce. This is a fairly weighted undertaking. If you are planning a move with UsDirectMovers, you will find that this is not the case.
At UsDirectMovers, our extensive years of moving experience and our professional and careful approach reduce moving stress. Of course, customers have many questions about the move process. If the following questions does not answer your concerns, contact us directly. We are happy to answer any questions.
Why should I hire a professional mover?
Hiring a professional moving company provides exceptional value on a day that can otherwise be very stressful. Moving can be physically and emotionally exhausting, and careful handling of sensitive or bulky objects requires special moving skills. We strongly advise that you reach an expert for this, as you would for many of the needs of your home, such as: For plumbing and electricity.
Is moving labor the only moving cost I should expect?
The moving labor stands for most of the moving costs. However, you should also budget for packaging supplies such as moving boxes and ribbons, as well as for an additional assessment (moving insurance), if necessary. UsDirectMovers takes special precautions with sensitive or large items such as flat-screen TVs and chandeliers. These items often require a custom wooden box, which incurs an additional charge.
How accurate will the moving estimate be?
Our sales team is proud to deliver the most accurate moving estimates in the industry. Our patented sales system ensures that we work closely with each customer to fully understand their moving needs and provide an accurate moving estimate that reflects those needs.
Should I tip my mover?
As with other service industries, you might want to thank your movers for the work they did with a tip.
Is valuation necessary?
Although UsDirectMover takes all necessary precautions while doing what we do best, unexpected damage can occur, and it is important to ensure that your property is protected. We can offer our customers a rating at a very fair price as we only make a very small number of claims.
Preparing to Move
What day is best to move?
Because unexpected events such as closing a house or completing a construction can be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, we recommend that you do not schedule your move for the same day. Save yourself the stress of replanning and schedule your move date for several days after your closing deadline.
When is the most suitable time to schedule my move?
It is recommended that you plan your move as early as possible. The farther you can plan your move, the better you can choose the date and time that suits you best. As a rule, you should contact us no later than two weeks before the desired collection date.
Demand for moving services is usually lowest at mid-month and mid-week in particular. If your schedule allows you to move on one of these days, many movers offer the cheapest rates in these times.
I want to do a few packing and moving before the movers arrive – What areas would be most helpful?
Focus only packing instead of moving. Smaller items and moving boxes can be transported very quickly by professional movers. Do not waste time trying to move these items yourself. Instead, focus on the packing boxes so that you are 100% ready when the movers arrive.
There are some of my items that won’t fit in my new home. Can I store them?
Of course, Yes! UsDirectMovers offers not only high-quality moving services but also full-service storage service. If your items do not fit into your new home, but you only live there for a limited time and are planning to move to a larger house, using our storerooms is a convenient and secure option.
How do I ensure that my items end up in the right room during the move?
Choose a simple labeling system (e.g., MBR for the master bedroom) and make sure all your boxes are clearly marked. The boxes must be labeled above and on all three sides. Your mover at the destination will work closely with you to make sure everything ends where it’s supposed to be.
Can I leave my cloth in my dresser drawers when I move?
In general, it is okay to leave clothes in the dresser drawers during the move.
How do I prepare my appliances for the move?
You should make sure your dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, washer, and dryer are empty. Also, movers are not trained, plumbers, or electricians. You must take the necessary precautions to have the specialist disconnect your washing machine, lights, chandeliers, and refrigerator from the mains or water connection.
Will you move my plants?
These items can be moved in local movements if they are properly packed and prepared. However, we cannot guarantee the safe transport of live plants that can be traumatized by extreme movements or temperatures in the moving truck. We cannot transport live plants in long-distance.
Are there any items that you won’t move?
UsDirectMovers, as well as all licensed movers, will not move dangerous or combustible elements such as propane tanks, firearms, paints, and aerosols, as these elements may explode or swell due to the temperature in the truck.
How will the movers know the items to take and the ones to leave behind?
When the movers arrive for the first time, they tour your current home and confirm which items are being sent and the ones that won’t be transported.
What happens if I have not finished packing on my planned move day?
If your move day is fast approaching and it is clear that you’re not fully packed, you must inform your Move coordinator as soon as possible. They can work with you to get the best “Plan B” for the packaging.
Can the movers arrange the furniture to my liking in my new home?
Definitely, when we move your items to your new home, we will work closely with you to make sure all furniture and boxes reach the right rooms. We are happy to organize and arrange the furniture precisely according to your wishes.
I have a few prized items that need to be treated with extra care. How can I get guaranteed on this?
For your own reassurance, it is best to carry jewelry and other small valuables in your personal vehicle. For the largest objects, such as art, antiques, musical instruments, special collections, or other objects of great importance and personal value, remind your movers of these items at the beginning of the move so that they can take the necessary action to ensure that they take proper care
Can I reduce my expenses further if a family member or friend helps me on the day of the move?
On the day of the move, you should let the professionals do the work completely. They are well trained and best suited to carry the weight and handle the load of the truck. In general, the fact that laypeople work with moving companies slows things down and costs you more in the long run. Your friends and family can be very helpful in preparing for the move by helping you pack your boxes or caring for your pets or children.
Can the movers transport my pets?
Unfortunately, there is no safe place for pets in the moving van. For reasons of accountability, they cannot be carried in the cab of the moving truck, and the rear of the moving lorry is not sufficient due to the lack of air conditioning and the risk while transferring of heavy items.
Can I go with the cab of the moving truck with the movers?
Sadly, for reasons of liability, professional removal companies cannot transport customers in the moving van. You should arrange a trip with a friend or taxi service on your move day.
Do I need to provide lunch for the movers?
Moving is an exhausting task and the movers need time to eat during the day. When you move there, every time the mover goes to lunch will be deducted from your hourly bill. The provision of lunch is not compulsory as the movers often bring lunch or find a place to eat on the way. However, water or sports drinks for movers are always appreciated.
Is it possible to move in adverse weather conditions?
Yes, our professional movers are ready to move in rain, sleet or snow. They come with supplies to protect your belongings from these elements. However, to keep costs down, we recommend that you rake, shovel or otherwise clear the access path to prepare for our mover’s arrival.
